A modern, WordPress-based e-commerce solution was developed for L'Orient.at, combining a web shop, blog, and reservation system into a single platform. The online shop uses WooCommerce with Amazon synchronization, supported by a dedicated Android app for inventory management.
Thanks to Polylang, Cloudflare, and Smush, the system offers multilingual support, high loading speed, and additional security. Quandoo (tables) and Team Booking (workshops) are used for reservations.

Project Overview

For L’Orient.at, a comprehensive WordPress-based e-commerce solution was developed, combining online shopping, blogging, and reservation features within a single integrated system. Over time, the platform was continuously optimized to enhance both technical performance and user experience.

System Architecture

  • WordPress – Core CMS and blogging platform
  • WooCommerce – E-commerce system with Amazon synchronization
  • Android App (Hybrid) – Custom-built application for inventory management and synchronization with the physical store

Customer Requirements

The client requested a complete solution that included:

  • A fully functional online store
  • A table reservation system for restaurant guests
  • A blogging platform for news and content updates
  • A seat reservation system for workshops

Implementation

Performance & Security

As the project evolved, several optimization measures were introduced to improve speed and security:

  • Image optimization: Reduction of image sizes using the Smush plugin
  • Caching & CDN: Initially handled through Jetpack, later replaced by W3 Total Cache, and ultimately by Cloudflare, which also enhanced site security

E-Commerce

  • Implemented with WordPress and WooCommerce
  • Integrated Amazon synchronization for automated product updates
  • Developed a custom hybrid Android app to synchronize stock levels with the physical store

Table Reservation System

  • Initially implemented with the WordPress plugin Restaurant Reservations
  • Later replaced with Quandoo at the client’s request, offering a more stable and user-friendly solution

Blogging System

  • Built on the native WordPress blog functionality to enable easy content publishing and communication

Workshop Reservations

  • After testing several solutions (Event Espresso, The Events Calendar), the lightweight Team Booking plugin was chosen as the optimal tool for managing workshop seat reservations
